Hippocrates Child Facility and home
Hippocrates currently operates out of extremely cramped premises which restrict the provision of high quality care. New premises are essential to develop the direct service provision as well as creating the opportunities to achieve greater involvement of parents into the rehabilitation process by adapting multifunctional therapy programmes.
This capital appeal is needed because Hippocrates can neither maintain its current level of service delivery in its current building, nor attempt to meet the increasing demand for the rehabilitation that it offers. The complex needs of chronically sick or disabled children require complex solutions. The cornerstone of meeting them is a multi-disciplinary facility that will offer children a complete rehabilitation programme. Additional funds are urgently needed to bring this vision into reality.
Tony Hawks, writer and comedian, has sponsored Hippocrates from it's very beginning and as he says:
“We are at a crossroads now. The need for the new centre to grow is overwhelming. Moldovan politicians are waking up to the fact that this kind of healthcare should be provided by the state – but a walk around the Children’s Hospital in Chisinau will reveal just how much money needs to be spent elsewhere – and the government just doesn’t have the money”
To date we have purchased the land, paid for drawings, laid the foundations and started the main building work - but funds are urgently needed for the main construction on Phase 1 to progress further.
Phase 1 will consist of four therapy rooms so that the various disciplines are not getting in each others way (or working in the staff kitchen as at present), a large therapy hall and meeting room with a welcoming reception area for the children and their families.
Phase 2 will consist of a hydro-therapy pool, toy library, orthoses prep area and training room.
